Not So Simple Backup is a new comer in the open source world : -). It is a fork of sbackup. Here is the 1st testable version (which carries out backups without errors). Now I need you to improve it and test it: -) .
2{What does NSsbackup add to Sbackup?2}
Good question! NSsbackup brings to you:
- A system of logs with report by mail
- the speed of execution
- The use of libnotify enables you to have a notification of the evolution of the backup you launch.
- Interface Config and Restore re-examined (I am opened to any proposal to improve the design)
- an architecture of plugins enables you to make backups towards distant destinations but also to make backups of distant sources (ssh, ftp… using FUSE)
- multi-user functionality (non root users )
- Implementation of XDG specification
- The « revert » function which enables you to restore a directory at the backup date state [ In sbackup you can only do it manually , looking snapshot by snapshot ]]
2{What next ?:2}
- To implement the use of cron and anacron for non-root users (currently works only for root)
- Documentation.
- to correct whatever bugs you will find : -)
2{Where can I find it to test ?2}
Beside on this article, you will find the distributable files , the source code and the development version on [launchpad .
2{I found out some bugs/improvements, what do I do?2}
You can declare a bug on launchpad concerning the NSsbackup project. The bugs concerning the software core are on https://bugs.launchpad.net/nssbackup/ and those against plugins on https://bugs.launchpad.net/nssbackup-plugins/
2{This project looks fun , can I join it to help?2}
